They have all the resources necessary, specialized to the individual learning of each child, and the heart that goes with it. I don't think we would have stayed in Ohio if it wasn't for JB!

As JB students prepare for break, parents and caretakers may be looking for kid-friendly and/or sensory-friendly activities to fill the summer days. Enjoy this guide of places to go, things to see, and experiences to enjoy this summer.
Lions and tigers and bears oh my! The Zoo is a great way to learn, get outside, and spend time with your families. If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit these zoos we certainly think they are worth the trip. Not only do they offer their standard zoo hours, they even offer sensory-friendly trips! Visit their websites or call for more information!
If you’re looking for something to do on a rainy summer day, may we suggest Sky Zone? Sky Zone is also committed to inclusion, which is why they offer sensory hours. You and your family can enjoy the full experience and freedom of jumping but in a toned-down, quieter environment. To find a location near you, check out their website!
If you are in the mood for a little road trip, we highly recommend COSI in Columbus. Inclusion is extremely important to them, and they have been working with local groups to develop video tutorials that allow guests who have a sensory sensitivity to see exhibits and learn more about COSI before visiting! They have also implemented a calming room for guests to use at any time. Their website offers preparatory videos, a Sensory Friendly Environment Map, an Autism Guest Guide, and a weekly schedule of Sensory Friendly Experiences.
Did you know Playhouse square provides a variety of free and low-cost programs for people of all ages? They believe the arts should inspire everyone. Their sensory-friendly initiative is dedicated to increasing inclusion and accessibility for children and families impacted by autism spectrum disorders and other sensory, social, and cognitive challenges or issues. Check out their website for more information on their sensory-friendly programs!
If you haven’t browsed the Cleveland Metroparks website for activities, we certainly recommend it! Not only do they have a section dedicated to virtual activities (crafts, coloring sheets, snacks, games, and more) they also have detailed calendars of all of their events and activities throughout the year. We know how great physical activity is in supporting mental, emotional, and cognitive health, that's why we encourage you to get outside and enjoy the fresh air our parks have to offer. Click here for more information!
Cleveland and Akron offer a ton of unique sightseeing opportunities. Whether you want to explore dinosaurs and artifacts from hundreds of thousands of years ago or take a leisurely stroll through the botanical gardens, there is surely something for everyone. You can always browse the Cleveland Arts & Culture website or the Downtown Akron website for the latest events in the area!
We hope you have the opportunity to spend time with your loved ones this summer and we encourage everyone to share their experiences and recommendations with the JB community!
