Welcome to Julie Billiart Schools, a family of K-8 coeducational, independent day schools for children with learning differences.

We’re delighted that you’re considering Julie Billiart Schools for your child. We’re coeducational, K-8 day schools in Akron, Lyndhurst, and Westlake for children with learning differences. We promise to walk hand-in-hand with you through the process of visiting, exploring, and applying to your campus of choice.

A Mutual Fit

The admission process at Julie Billiart Schools ensures that we reach the students that need us most and are likely to benefit from our whole-child approach to learning. Working hand-in-hand with parents, intervention specialists, administrators, and therapists, we assess each applicant to determine if JB can benefit that child.

Student assessments include academic history, teacher recommendations, achievement tests, admission assessment, and interactions with current teachers and students. We strive to ensure an excellent match between our school, the students, and the families we serve.

Rolling Admissions

Julie Billiart Schools offers rolling admissions, which means that as we have openings, we will accept applications and admit qualified students at any point in the school year. Tuition is prorated to the time of enrollment. Note that some campuses have a waitlist for certain grades. We encourage you to apply as soon as you’re ready so that we can begin to process your application. Applications are reviewed in the order in which they’re received.

Admissions Process and Next Steps

Step One: Explore JB.

Our website and social media channels are excellent resources for prospective families. Explore a day in the life of a student, learn about our campuses, and check out our curriculum for the grade you’re interested in. You can also request more information about Julie Billiart Schools, here. Or, schedule a call with an admissions representative by emailing admissions

Step Two: Attend an Interested Parent Open House.

No words, or even photos and videos, can adequately describe the JB Way. Meeting our faculty and staff, chatting with our Principals, and touring our sensory-friendly classrooms helps parents see the true value in a JB education. We hold dedicated Open Houses multiple times throughout the school year and we encourage all interested families to attend.

Step Three: Apply!

Applying for admission is easy using our online application. We encourage families to use the online application form as it simplifies the process and provides parents a tool for tracking the status of their child’s admission after it has been submitted.

Start Your Application

Along with the completed online application form, the following items will be required during the application process. If you do not have these items, or if your IEP or ETR are out of date, please reach out to us.

  • $50 Nonrefundable Application Fee (currently waived)
  • Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Psychological Evaluation (if applicable)
  • Current Teacher Forms
  • Student Photo
  • Evaluation Team Report (ETR)

When applying, please submit your application for financial aid, as well. You may need to log in to the system more than once, so please remember your username and password.

Continue A Current Application

As soon as your application is complete, you'll receive an email confirmation. Our admissions team will review your child's completed application and documents. If there are no openings in your child's grade level at the time of your application, you'll be added to our waitlist. We encourage you to consider possible openings at other JB locations, as all JB schools offer the same supportive environment for children with learning differences.

While on the waitlist, we'll send eNewsletters and periodic emails to check in. If the application indicates that we may be able to meet your child's learning and/or social needs, and if there is a spot available in the appropriate grade level, we will contact you to schedule a shadow day(s).

Step Five: Screening.

When your application is fully submitted, you'll be invited to a Screening Day. We hold four screening days each year. Our highly qualified Screen Team, composed of Intervention Specialists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Behavior Analysts, and Administrators, work together to engage your child in a warm, friendly school setting. We explore your child's academic abilities through developmentally-appropriate tasks and assessments to better understand your child's academic levels. The most important part of our screening is the social and emotional component, as we want to ensure that Julie Billiart Schools has the appropriate supports in place to help your child thrive. We do not expect perfection, and understand that students come to JB with a wide range of academic and social skills.

Step Six: Decision.

You will receive a phone call from the school Principal within a week of the shadow day. At that time the Principal will discuss your child's eligibility for enrollment. Accepted families will meet with the Principal of their campus of choice for an official Acceptance Meeting.

If you have questions about the admissions process, please contact Admissions. Thank you for joining us on this journey. We hope that your child finds a home at Julie Billiart Schools.
