Meet Principal O'Brien

Hello, and welcome to Julie Billiart School Westlake! Now in my third year as principal and my sixth year with JB, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to lead such a vibrant, caring community. Starting at JB Akron as a fifth-grade Intervention Specialist in 2020 to my time as Assistant Principal and Director of Special Education at Akron and Westlake, I’ve been continually inspired by the incredible growth, compassion, and spirit that define our school.

Our Westlake campus has continued to grow—not just in numbers, but in the depth of relationships, programming, and opportunities we offer to our students. This is only possible because of our dedicated teachers, therapists, support staff, administrators, generous donors, and trusting families who believe in our mission and in the potential of every child.

I’m filled with excitement for what’s ahead—new goals, new milestones, and more moments of joy and achievement for our students. I’m proud to lead a school that makes such a meaningful difference every single day.

Thank you,

Patrick O'Brien, M.Ed.
Principal, JB Westlake

About Principal O'Brien

Patrick O’Brien graduated from John Carroll with his undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education. He also completed his masters from Youngstown State University in Educational Administration. He taught for four years at St. Vincent - St. Mary High School as an Intervention Specialist before finding his home at JB Akron in the fall of 2020. He and his wife, Christine reside in North Olmsted with their daughter, Mila and dog, Parker.

“I am most looking forward to building upon the exceptional school culture that already exists here at JBW. All the credit goes to our teachers, I am simply excited that I get to play a small role in helping them thrive. Now, I have the pleasure and responsibility of maintaining what already exists, finding areas in which we can improve, and welcoming any families that join our school community in years to come.”

open-quote Julie Billiart Schools gave us hope after our daughter was diagnosed with a learning disability. At JB, she thrived in the small classes, received necessary therapies, and developed the self-confidence to ask for help when she needed it. close-quote

open-quote They have all the resources necessary, specialized to the individual learning of each child, and the heart that goes with it. I don't think we would have stayed in Ohio if it wasn't for JB! close-quote
