AKRON, Ohio – Julie Billiart Schools Akron was honored to receive the Fr. James J. Reymann Community Service Award from the Charles and Salome Reymann Foundation on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Foundation’s new headquarters.
The Fr. Reymann Award recognizes individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to improving the lives of people with developmental disabilities in Northeast Ohio, or who have demonstrated exceptional civic engagement and compassion for their community. Recipients exemplify the core values and mission of the Reymann Foundation.
“Being selected as this year’s award recipient is a true honor and joy for the entire JB community,” said Gabrielle Redovian, Principal of JB Akron. “Receiving this award reminds us of three powerful words—love, acceptance, and belonging—values that Fr. Reymann passionately championed throughout his life.”
JB Akron opened its doors in 2017 as Julie Billiart Schools’ second campus, marking the beginning of a period of major growth for the network, which now includes four campuses across Northeast Ohio. Starting with just 14 students in its first year, JB Akron now serves more than 130 students from the Akron region and beyond.
“What a tremendous honor this is for our Akron campus,” said Lannie Davis-Frecker, President and CEO of Julie Billiart Schools. “It reflects the dedication of our leadership—especially Principal Redovian—and our staff, who work tirelessly to create an environment where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to learn in ways that best fit their unique needs.”
The Charles and Salome Reymann Foundation, based in Fairlawn, Ohio, was established in 1967 to support individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, caregivers, and the professionals who serve them. The Foundation believes that all individuals with disabilities should have the opportunity to develop their talents to their fullest potential and live as independently as possible.
Founded in 1954 by the Sisters of Notre Dame, Julie Billiart Schools educate, empower, and nurture K–8 students who learn differently. JB serves children with mild-to-moderate special learning needs including ADHD, anxiety, autism, dyslexia, developmental disabilities, and other executive functioning challenges. With campuses in Akron, Brecksville, Lyndhurst, and Westlake, JB provides an individualized, safe learning environment where children can thrive and grow.
