SOUTH BEND, Ind - Julie Billiart Schools was honored to receive the BJ Cassin Prize from the Drexel Fund in October at the 2025 Portfolio Member Convening.
The BJ Cassin Prize made its debut in 2024, named after BJ Cassin, a co-founder and longtime chairman of the Drexel Fund. The prize recognizes accessible private schools in Drexel’s grants portfolio that have pioneered and scaled high-impact educational models.
Julie Billiart Schools was The Drexel Fund’s first portfolio member focused on special learning needs. When representatives toured campus for the first time in 2014, they saw the JB Way in action, and wanted to invest and see JB expand their impactful footprint. Today, Julie Billiart serves as the The Drexel Fund’s standard for special education when looking at other programs to fund.
Along with the recognition, the Cassin prize comes with a $25,000 that can be used to further JB’s mission to educate, empower, and nurture K–8 students who learn differently.
Thanks to the help of The Drexel Fund and the BJ Cassin Prize, we’ve been able to expand from one school to four, and continue to provide an individualized, safe learning environment where children can thrive and grow.
