[Lyndhurst, OH, September 2, 2022] Julie Billiart School Lyndhursts’ (JB Lyndhurst) library is undergoing some modernization to provide a new comfortable space for its students to learn, collaborate, and thrive.

Thanks to IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) Funds in collaboration with Demco, the library, located in the original part of the Arter Mansion, will receive furniture and collaborative spaces for students to work at and enjoy. Danielle Bennett, Librarian/Literacy Specialist at JBL, worked closely with Demco, a premier provider of innovative library furniture and equipment, to identify the most appropriate improvements to fit the needs of all JB students.

Bennett carefully considered how the library is currently used and could be used. The space is primarily used as a library housing books for all students grades K-8 to read and borrow but there are many events, clubs, and activities that take place in the library itself throughout the school year.

“I wanted to make sure that the integrity and aesthetics of the library remained intact. The space is part of the original mansion and is beautifully detailed”, said Bennett. “This space is where students take ownership of their reading and come together as a community. I can’t wait to see how the students thrive in the new space!”

The library updates are expected to be completed sometime in October 2022, just in time for JBL’s annual Spooky Library. During Spooky Library, JB students transform the library into a spooky putt-putt course with art they’ve created. JBL is home to 132 students throughout grades K-8.

“It’s so exciting to continue to offer our students the best opportunities and environments to succeed”, said Chris McCloskey, Principal of JB Lyndhurst. “We know how important this space is for our students to socialize, collaborate, and at times, have a quiet space to self-regulate. It was only natural that when looking for ways to enhance where our students learn it was in such a core component of our school.”

open-quote They have all the resources necessary, specialized to the individual learning of each child, and the heart that goes with it. I don't think we would have stayed in Ohio if it wasn't for JB! close-quote

open-quote Julie Billiart Schools gave us hope after our daughter was diagnosed with a learning disability. At JB, she thrived in the small classes, received necessary therapies, and developed the self-confidence to ask for help when she needed it. close-quote
