They have all the resources necessary, specialized to the individual learning of each child, and the heart that goes with it. I don't think we would have stayed in Ohio if it wasn't for JB!

Take the Next Step
Monday, August 24, 2020
Over the summer, Julie Billiart Schools said farewell to some beloved retirees and welcomed new faculty and staff to accommodate for new enrollment. Some faculty and staff shifted positions or grade levels. We celebrate these changes because no matter what role or position, all JB team members embody the “JB Way”.
BCBA
At JBL, Katie Schaefer will be moving from her previous role in kindergarten to a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA). This will be Schaefer’s seventh year at JB. This new role will allow her to interact with all of the students from kindergarten through eighth grade. She is excited to work with all of the wonderful students at JB, as well as spend more time with some of her previous students. Schaefer will also have the opportunity to provide support to parents and teachers in her new role.
“I loved the last six years in kindergarten and teaching each of our youngest learners how to be students and welcoming them into the JB family. However, I am very excited to spread my time and be a resource to the entire school,” says Schaefer.
Librarian/Literacy Specialist
Moving to the role of Librarian/Literacy Specialist at JBL is Danielle Bennett. Bennett, who just completed her sixteenth school year at JB, has taught fourth grade for all her years at JB Lyndhurst.
“Being the new Librarian/Literacy Specialist at JB is bittersweet. I have worked very closely with Shari Sasso, the previous JBL Librarian, for many years and although I am so happy for her as she is enjoying retirement in Hawaii, it was sad to see her leave,” says Bennett. “Very big shoes to fill! But, reading is my passion and sharing my love of reading with my students, especially the reluctant readers or those who struggle with written text, and seeing them get excited about a new series or improving their AR quiz scores - that is really special.”
Bennett has spent her summer reading books that she knows the students enjoy, or would enjoy.
Virtual Learning Specialist
A new role that will support both the Lyndhurst Campus and the Akron Campus this year is the Virtual Learning Specialist. With distance learning as an option for families this year, this role will provide ongoing support to the group of students who have chosen a distance learning format. Josh Mozzocco, who has been at JBL for 10 years, will lead this role. Part of his role will be to ensure that tech platforms and devices are working properly and are being utilized properly by teachers and students. Mozzocco will also troubleshoot technical issues that occur when students are working from home during distance learning. Because every JB student learns a bit differently, our approach to distance learning is highly customized for each grade level, each class, and even each student.
Third Grade Teacher
Lindsey Brown is transferring from the Akron Campus to the Lyndhurst Campus in third grade. This will be her second year at JB. Some of her favorite memories at JB include playing football and soccer with her students during recess, reading aloud books, and a field trip to Bauman Orchards. “I am excited to work at the JB Lyndhurst Campus and continue working with intervention specialists and staff that share the same mission and passion in teaching our students. I look forward to making more special memories this upcoming school year,” says Brown.
Sixth and Seventh Grade Teachers
There are also a few changes among grade levels. Taylor DiPasquale will be in sixth grade at JB Lyndhurst and Brianna Sluss will be in sixth grade at JB Akron. Additionally, Amanda Katsilis and Erika Goler are both moving from last year’s sixth/seventh grade merge class to seventh/eighth grade at JB Akron.
