JB Alum Shares Advice for Transitioning to High School

My name is Aadam (David) Dellinger. I go to Cleveland Central Catholic High School. I am a freshman this year. I went to Julie Billiart School in Lyndhurst starting in Kindergarten and finishing in eighth grade. Some of my favorite things at Julie Billiart Schools were spirit wear days and Read Across America Day.

I decided to go to Cleveland Central Catholic because it felt perfect for me to go there. I first went to see CCC on a Sunday with my mom and brother and saw all the amazing clubs painted on the ceiling in the hall by the office. It made me want to do clubs. I liked how the school looked on the outside and the inside.

When I shadowed, I took a peek at the school. I was with a student named Johnte who also went to Julie Billiart Schools. My favorite thing when I shadowed was everything. I went to all the classes with Johnte. We also had lunch, it was great and I tried a calzone for the first time.

In the summer before high school, I was nervous. I told my mom I was nervous about my locker and finding my classes.

The first day was big. I was so nervous to go in those doors. When I got in, it went smoothly.

The school is a four-story building and there are lots of stairs. My locker is on the fourth floor near my first class. I do not have a favorite class. I buy hot lunch every day.

A thing that Julie Billiart Schools taught me that helps in high school is writing things down and keeping my planner organized. I like my social skills class at CCC and that teacher helps me with a lot of stuff even for my other classes. For remote school now, my social skills class meets in Google meets every day at 10:30. My mom set up a desk for me and my classes are going ok.

My advice to eighth graders about high school is don’t be too nervous, it will be ok.

open-quote I don’t think I will ever be able to put into words how grateful I am that you saw my daughter for all that she is today and all that she is yet to become. close-quote

open-quote They have all the resources necessary, specialized to the individual learning of each child, and the heart that goes with it. I don't think we would have stayed in Ohio if it wasn't for JB! close-quote

open-quote Julie Billiart Schools gave us hope after our daughter was diagnosed with a learning disability. At JB, she thrived in the small classes, received necessary therapies, and developed the self-confidence to ask for help when she needed it. close-quote
