I don’t think I will ever be able to put into words how grateful I am that you saw my daughter for all that she is today and all that she is yet to become.

Did you know that we incorporate typing into our curriculum starting in Kindergarten? There are many benefits to typing outside of real-world applications. Typing has many OT benefits for students with fine motor challenges, which is why we try to find fun ways to incorporate typing activities into our kiddos’ instruction without them even realizing it! Check out this fun activity, shared by one of our Occupational Therapists. Try recreating it at home to help your child:
Improve fine motor skills
Improve focus
Practice typing
Practice patience
And have fun!
List of materials
Plastic beads of different sizes, colors, shapes, etc.
Plastic container with lid
Baking Sheet
Creating the letters
Stick a magnetic tile to the back of each letter.
If you don’t buy magnets with adhesive backs, you will need to glue the magnets to the wooden pieces and wait for them to dry.
Creating the box
Once your letters are ready, combine your letters and a variety of plastic beads so that your container is half full.
You’ll want to leave enough room to mix around the pieces so that your kiddo can sift through them to find the tiles.
Put the lid on the box and give it a good mix!
Have Fun!
Now place the baking sheet in front of your child. Have them sift through the box with the goal of recreating the letters on the keyboard in front of them.
You can also challenge them to spell words and practice “typing” words once they have recreated the full keyboard.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to the creative ways to bring OT activities into your home. We can’t wait to see if you try this out at home!
