More than joyful noise, Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals for kids with learning differences.
“Our child loves music class and music therapy because JB knows how to engage him,” said Mrs. Sarah Risher, parent of a JB third-grader. “If he’s having a difficult day or is having trouble focusing, they have so many strategies to bring him back to the lesson or subject. Because of how JB teaches music, my son’s desire to learn new things in general has increased. Instead of giving up, the lesson is framed as teaching their brains to learn something new. It’s been a huge confidence booster for our child.”
Julie Billiart Schools supplements rigorous academics with a number of onsite therapies, including music therapy, to help students address behavioral, social, psychological, communicative, physical, sensory, motor, and/or cognitive functioning.
Music therapy, which is separate from music classes, is available to students at all JB campuses as part of JB tuition. Our Music Therapist engages kids in intentional and developmentally appropriate musical activities to help them access and process emotions, practice fine motor skills, and develop confidence and joy.
Our Music Therapists use music to address the physical, learning, emotional and social needs of our students. Therapists incorporate singing, listening to music, dancing, creating music, rhythms and sounds to help students:
In addition to direct treatment, our Music Therapist collaborates with intervention specialists, onsite speech therapists, art therapists, occupational therapists, and of course, parents. Our therapists engage in frequent contact with parents to reinforce goals and activities in the home. As a team, we work to ensure all kids are getting the most from their school and home environments.
