Wednesday, June 10, 2026
The 2025-26 school year was one of tremendous growth and achievement for Julie Billiart Schools. Our students continued to make meaningful academic, social, and emotional progress, and we served more families than ever before. With all four campuses operating at full capacity, it was a record-setting year for both our students and staff.
Julie Billiart Schools is proud to announce that four faculty and staff members were recognized with prestigious Sisters of Notre Dame Network Award - the most awards ever received by JB in a single year.
Transformative Leadership Award
Jenna Hittle, Assistant Principal // JB Akron
The Transformative Leadership Award honors individuals within the Sisters of Notre Dame national network who inspire hope and excellence while leading others toward fuller, freer lives. As catalysts for growth, recipients inspire hearts and transform lives through their vision, mission-driven leadership, and exceptional impact on those they serve. They demonstrate a deep commitment to fostering meaningful relationships with God, others, themselves, and all of creation.
Gospel Witness Award
Erika Elliott, Speech-Language Pathologist // JB Akron
Patrick O’Brien, Principal // JB Westlake
The Gospel Witness Award recognizes those who embody Jesus’ spirit of compassion, hope, and joy, especially in service to those experiencing poverty in its many forms. Recipients reflect and nurture the Notre Dame charism, spirit, and mission within their professional communities and among all those they serve.
Fr. Bernard Overberg “Teacher of Teachers” Award
Kelly Matthias, Intervention Specialist (Begindergarten)
The Fr. Bernard Overberg “Teacher of Teachers” Award honors educators who carry forward Father Bernard Overberg’s legacy and educational vision. His influence on the Sisters of Notre Dame emphasized helping children develop their God-given gifts, understand their world, live responsibly within it, and grow in their relationship with God. Award recipients ignite a love of learning through engaging, student-centered instruction that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, observation, problem-solving, and the confident sharing of ideas.
These four outstanding faculty and staff members exemplify Julie Billiart Schools’ core values of collaboration, commitment, compassion, and courage. Through their unwavering dedication to special education and their commitment to meeting each child where they are, they are helping shape brighter futures for our students and transforming lives every day.
