I don’t think I will ever be able to put into words how grateful I am that you saw my daughter for all that she is today and all that she is yet to become.

Take the Next Step
Thursday, June 23, 2022
On Thursday, June 2, 2022, Julie Billiart Schools (JB) held their annual Celebrate Gala to benefit the children and families of JB. The Celebrate Gala raises critical funds that JB students need in order to have access to the kind of special education that helps them find their own pathways to success.
The evening was made possible by presenting sponsors Flannery Georgalis and Cedarbrook Financial. This year’s Gala chairs, Brent and Cheryl Pietrafese and Nick and Dawn Russo, brought the event to life.
More than 200 attendees gathered at JB’s newest campus, JB Westlake, for a tented, outdoor affair. The night began with a cocktail hour, hours d'oeuvres, and a number of options for attendees to tour the school, learn more about JB students, and participate in small auctions.
During the program and plated dinner, attendees heard from President and CEO Lannie Davis-Frecker, who was joined by co-host and 2021 alumni Melia Markley. The hosts recognized the Three Musketeers: Roger and Sally Read, and the late Phil Maynard with the Maynard Family Foundation with the Spirit of St. Julie Award. The Three Musketeers dedicated immense time and resources into making JB Akron, Julie Billiart’s second campus, possible. Today, JB Akron continues to thrive and laid the foundation for JB Westlake and future schools.
"There are truly no words that adequately express the depth of our gratitude and appreciation for being our champions,” said Davis-Frecker. “The only thing I can say is that every single child who walks through the front doors of JB Akron-- from our opening days to the end of time-- can only do so because of what the three of you have done. Your continuous example has instilled in our students that with JB Schools, success comes from solidarity and support."
Attendees heard a moving testimonial from Londyn Taylor, a 2021 alumni who is currently a freshman at Beamont high school, before participating in an exciting live auction. Later, current parent Jill Haller shared the story of her son’s journey to JB.
“Our gracious God has led us and Emerson to a sanctuary of unconditional love, acceptance, support and hope – and that sanctuary is called Julie Billiart,” said Haller. “The holistic and individual educational standards of this institution are incomparable. Julie Billiart is a ministry that not only serves the whole student, but the whole family.”
After hearing such transformative stories, guests raised their paddles to donate to JB students. All proceeds from the Celebrate Gala are directed to the Julie Billiart Schools’ area of greatest need, which includes means like supporting tuition assistance for students, ongoing professional development for faculty and staff, and learning environments that help our students succeed.
