New Renovations Coming to JB Akron This Summer

Planned renovations include an expanded Kindergarten classroom and a new entryway for the school.

This summer, Julie Billiart School Akron will complete two exciting renovation projects to add to the aesthetic, experience, and functionality of JB Akron. Over the summer months, JB Akron will expand the footprint of its current Kindergarten classroom and build out a welcoming new entryway for the main entrance of the school.

“Both projects allow us to continue to grow as a school and provide the necessary amenities to our students that make Akron a great JB school,” said Jason Wojnicz, M.Ed., Principal of JB Akron.

These capital improvements are planned and approved by Lannie Davis-Frecker, President and CEO of Julie Billiart Schools, and the JB Board of Directors. JB Leadership is dedicated to the growth, maintenance, and continuity of learning environments across all JB campuses. They continue to plan and support projects like these for ongoing improvements at each JB school, allowing students to receive the same exceptional education in a warm, welcoming, beautiful space no matter which campus they call home.

Kindergarten Classroom

As enrollment continues to grow at JB Akron, a Kindergarten classroom renovation will create more space to meet the capacity of 12 Kindergarten students each year. The expanded classroom will allow for the appropriate amount of space for the teachers to conduct whole group activities such as morning meetings and other class-wide activities. It will also allow students to have dedicated areas for their desks as they develop the skills to work independently.

Center-time, a critical element of a Kindergartener’s day, allows students to work on generalizing academic and social skills during more unstructured time. The new classroom space will allow for dedicated spaces around the classroom for the appropriate centers to be set up. The new space will also create a dedicated area for student breaks where students can work on coping strategies and body regulation.

“Up to this point, our Kindergarten classroom space has been limited but has served our population well,” said Wojnicz. “Now we look forward to optimizing our program with a fully renovated classroom.”

Front Entryway

Currently, the main entry of the school can often be mistaken for the side of the school, which can cause confusion for guests and visitors. The addition of the front entryway of JB Akron’s main entrance will enhance the visual appeal of the exterior of the school building and allow for a larger gathering place for pick-up and drop-off routines at the start and end of the school day.

“Our goal is to create a beautiful school for our students, inside and out,” said Wojnicz. “We want our students and families to be proud to be part of the JB family.”

Both projects will begin in June and will be completed prior to August 1, 2021.
