Take the Next Step
In 2022, 99 percent of our students in Akron, Lyndhurst, and Westlake received scholarship funds from the State of Ohio. Julie Billiart Schools are approved providers for the Ohio Department of Education's Jon Peterson Special Needs (JPSN) Scholarship and Autism Scholarship.
All students who have IEPs from their public school district of residence may qualify for funding. Scholarship amounts vary depending on the category of disability. Applicants may be eligible for one, but not both of these scholarships.

In 2022-23, 26 percent of our student body used the Jon Peterson Scholarship to assist in payment of tuition. The Jon Peterson Scholarship program provides scholarships to students who are eligible to attend kindergarten through 12th grade and have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) from their district of residence.
Children are eligible to apply from kindergarten up to age 22 (if graduation requirements have not been met), and have been determined eligible for special education and related services through an Evaluation Team Report (ETR). A finalized IEP from their district of residence is required to receive the scholarship award.
Students may apply for the JPSN Scholarship year-round.
The amount of each scholarship is based on the disability identified on the student's IEP and does not exceed $30,000. Scholarship amounts range from $8,941 to $30,000.
In 2022-23, 73 percent of our student body qualified for the Autism Scholarship. The Autism Scholarship Program (ASP) gives the parents of children with autism who qualify for a scholarship the choice to send the child to a special education program other than the one operated by the school district of residence to receive their education and the services outlined in the child's individualized education program (IEP).
Children who are at least three years old but less than twenty-two years old, who qualify for special education under the autism category, and who have a current, finalized IEP with their district of residence are eligible to apply for the autism scholarship. If a student meets the eligibility requirements, he or she will be awarded a scholarship. There is no cap on the number of autism scholarships available.
The autism scholarship amount is the lesser of the fee charged by the special education program or the $32,445 scholarship amount.
Applications are accepted throughout the year. The deadline for newly eligible students turning three is May 31 of each year.
