Summary:

Julie Billiart Schools is a network of schools serving children grades K-8 with special learning challenges. Currently we have campuses in Akron, Brecksville, Lyndhurst, and Westlake that offer unique learning environments for students with autism, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and social learning challenges. We are Catholic, non-public schools that respect diverse faith traditions.

Job Purpose

Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Schools Officer with a dotted line to the School Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR), the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) assists in supplementing, enhancing, and extending occupational therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, activities designed by OTR to assist with student’s assessment, intervention, treatment and activities to enhance motor, sensory, self-regulatory, and other functional abilities. The Multi-Site Occupational Therapist will work closely with the Occupational Therapist and travel to the school campus locations throughout the week as scheduled.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following is a list of primary duties and responsibilities. Other duties to be assigned as needed.   • Assists OTR with screenings, assessments and occupational therapy services.
  • Follows and implements documented IEP plans or protocols.
  • Documents student progress toward meeting established objectives and reports the information to the OTR.
  • Assists the OTR during assessments with formal documentation (i.e. data collection, progress reports). .
  • Prepares materials and performs clerical duties.
  • Prepares therapy materials and/or equipment for use in the classroom and therapy activities.
  • Adapts or modifies instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs and abilities for teacher use in the classroom.
  • Assists in maintaining student records, tallying data, preparing charts, records, graphs, and reports.
  • Assists in organizing classroom activities such as displaying educational materials, arranging furniture to facilitate instructional requirements and creates an orderly and clean learning environment.
  • Professional Development
  • Participates in continuing education and professional development and other training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to the assignment.
  • Reviews current developments, changing legal requirements, and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Participate in professional growth activities such as team meetings and program visitations.
  • Performs other tasks and duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Occupational Therapist or Chief Schools Officer.

Requirements

Education, Experience and Qualifications

Education

  • Current licensure to practice Occupational Therapy within the state of Ohio (Required)
  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant License (Preferred)
  • Ohio Department of Education Certification (Preferred)

Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience working as an Occupational Therapist Assistant in a school or educational setting is preferred.
  • Strong assessment and intervention planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Passion for working with children and helping them overcome developmental, educational, and motor challenges.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated on the latest research and techniques in occupational therapy.
  • Maintain a high level of organization for file maintenance and record-keeping.
  • Belief and commitment to the JB way and mission and to embracing the Sisters of Notre Dame’s philosophies and teachings

Working Conditions

The work of the Occupational Therapy Assistant requires movement to a variety of locations within the school.
