Dates/Hours of Assignment: 7/10/2023 – 8/4/2023 (Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM)

Summary

Julie Billiart Schools is a network of schools serving children grades K-8 with special learning challenges. Currently we have campuses in Akron, Lyndhurst and Westlake that offer unique learning environments for students with autism, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, specific learning deficiencies and social learning challenges. We are Catholic, non-public schools that welcome diverse faith traditions.

Job Purpose

This position is responsible for organizing and leading a variety of small group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, swimming, archery, zip lining, trampoline park, etc. Camp counselors are also expected to implement social, behavioral and academic interventions to a group of approximately 10 students under the supervision of a Beyond Camp Teacher.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following is a list of primary duties and responsibilities. Other duties to be assigned as needed.   • Provide individualized interventions for up to 10 campers with learning challenges
  • Participate in staff meetings, conferences, and other required camp activities
  • Organize and lead a variety of small group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, swimming, archery, zip lining, trampoline park, etc.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp
  • Assist with preparation of the classroom or designated area for instruction
  • Prepare for role in the daily lesson plans
  • Implement intervention plans
  • Create visuals or individualized plans as assigned
  • Collect data
  • Help guide and mentor Junior Counselors to have a deeper understanding of leadership and counseling skills
  • Meet with supervising teacher and camp directors regularly for coaching and feedback

Requirements

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

Necessary and desirable qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following Key Attributes:

  • Skilled in differentiating education
  • Experience providing strategies for improved social and behavioral outcomes in children
  • Ability to develop social and behavioral interventions
  • Excellent skills in both verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work both independently or within a team
  • Proficient communicating with parents and colleagues
  • Flexible thinker able to make adjustments in the moment
  • Enthusiastic, driven, and independent

Qualifications

  • Minimum of high school diploma
  • Volunteer or paid experience working with children in group setting
  • Experience working with students with learning challenges preferred
  • Experience working in a camp setting preferred

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires being indoors and outdoors, sometimes exposed to weather characteristic of the region.
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases
