JB graduate, David Petrovic provides hope to parents as he tells his inspirational story of accepting and embracing life on the autism spectrum.
Julie Billiart School alumnus, David Petrovic is no stranger to the spotlight. This 25-year-old TEDx speaker, author and junior high teacher has engaged audiences throughout the country with his story of determination and triumph. David’s journey from infancy to adulthood has been filled with many challenges along the way. He now aspires to help others facing obstacles and seeking hope.
The mission of Julie Billiart Schools is to nurture and empower students with special learning needs, and for David, the school did just that. According to David, "JB instilled in me the acceptance of every single type of diversity. Like a sunflower, it planted the seeds of how to learn, strengthened the roots of a life-long commitment to organization, and helped my faith to blossom. JB provided the environment to embrace help and the confidence to be me!" JB paved the way for David to ultimately have a fulfilling and happy life with autism.
David is a graduate of
Lake Catholic High School in Mentor. He also attended Notre Dame College in
South Euclid where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Middle
Childhood Education. During his time in college, David co-authored a book with
his mother, Sandy. Expect a Miracle: A
Mother/Son Asperger Journey of Determination and Triumph tells the story of life with autism from two perspectives. Through his book and public speaking, David’s mission is to help others conquer some of the challenges he has faced throughout his life.
David is thrilled to bring his story back to Julie Billiart Schools campuses! He will speak to parents at the Lyndhurst campus on Wednesday, March 27th and Akron campus on Thursday, March 28th.
Both presentations will begin at 6:30pm. David will discuss his journey of
accepting and embracing his autism. He will convey lessons he learned that pertain
to everyone, differences or not, and will explain what helped him succeed in
high school and beyond. His mother and co-author, Sandy Petrovic, will preface
his presentation with parent-to-parent insights and suggestions. The evening
will conclude with a book sale and author signing. Copies of Expect a Miracle will be available for purchase ($20 inclusive of tax) by cash or check only. Register to attend either presentation below.
