School Life
Beyond the Classroom

The Music program at Julie Billiart School incorporates elements from Orff-Schulwerk, Dalcroze, and Kodaly. The children learn the elements of music--dynamics, timbre, harmony, melody, texture, rhythm/beat, and form--by becoming music makers through singing, dancing, speech, body percussion, and playing unpitched percussion (drums, tambourines, etc.).

Besides the xylophone, students in Grades 4 and 5 learn to play the recorder. The Junior High program includes units on World Drumming, hand chime ringing, and guitar. Students in Grades 4 through 8 have the opportunity to participate in a Children's Choir. The choir sings at monthly school liturgies.
