  • Q. Are scholarships available to help with the cost of tuition?

     
    If your child has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) from your home school district, they are qualified for one of two scholarships offered by the state of Ohio.  

    The Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students who are eligible to attend kindergarten through 12th grade. The amount of each scholarship is  based on the disability identified on the student’s IEP and may pay up to $27,000. More information can be found here.
     
    The Autism Scholarship Program (ASP) gives the parents of children with autism the choice to send their child  to a special education program other than the one operated by their home school district. The ASP provides $27,000 for the parents to allocate to a certified Autism Scholarship provider in the state of Ohio. To qualify for this program, the student must be identified as having autism by their home school district. and have an IEP. More information about the Autism Scholarship Program can be found here.

  • Q. How are admission decisions made?

    All completed applications are reviewed by our administration team. If eligible, your child will then be invited to the school for an individualized assessment and observation. Admission decisions are based on your child’s readiness and potential to benefit from our program. The school principal will typically notify the family within 7-10 days of a decision.
     
  • Q. Will Julie Billiart School of St. Sebastian Parish, Akron offer classes only to students in grades K-2?

     
    No. Each year, we will be adding additional grades. By the 2020-2021 school year, Julie Billiart School of St. Sebastian Parish will be expanding to serve students in all grades, kindergarten through 8th. You are welcome and encouraged to submit an application any time.
  • Q. What happens if space is not available at my child’s grade level?

     
    If space is not available at the time of the admission decision, you child will be placed on a wait list and notified if space becomes available. Because of of our small class sizes, we encourage families to complete and return the admissions application as early as possible.
     
  • Q. Will my child’s IEP be implemented at Julie Billiart School of St. Sebastian Parish?

     
    Yes. Your child’s curriculum is individually designed by intervention specialists and therapists to meet and exceed the goals included in his or her IEP.  By offering a “whole-child” approach to learning, Julie Billiart School of St. Sebastian prepares your child for success throughout their entire academic career.
     
  • Q. Is transportation available?

     
    Yes, depending on where your family lives, bus transportation may be available. Certain public school districts provide free transportation to Julie Billiart School of St. Sebastian Parish. Contact your home school district transportation department for more information. For families that wish to drive their children to school or coordinate carpool transportation with other families, our drop-off/pick-up procedures are both convenient and safe.
