Distance Learning

The JB Difference

In cooperation with Governor Mike DeWine’s announcement on the afternoon of April 20, 2020, Julie Billiart Schools will remain physically closed through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. We are still committed to offering distance learning, supporting our families, and celebrating the tremendous growth of our kids. While it can be discouraging to think of what students may be missing out on, please remember that your children are still learning vital technology skills that will serve them as they grow. They’re learning how to be more flexible - a skill we teach at every grade level. They’re participating in virtual lessons, therapy sessions, and exploring the same topics they would be if they were sitting at their desks. They’re also learning from YOU! During the day, they’re receiving plenty of lessons about sharing with siblings, making snacks for themselves, taking breaks when they need to, and balancing school work with their home lives. They are learning and growing, even though it might look different than usual. We’re so very proud of them and appreciate all you have been doing to support this effort.

Education Plan

Because every JB student learns a bit differently, our approach to Distance Learning is highly customized for each grade level, each class, and even each student. It's always important to us to meet our students exactly where they are, and that's especially true during these unprecedented times. Kindergarten teachers are leveraging lessons in Google Classroom and take-home materials, while some of the older grades engage in interactive video lessons. Julie Billiart Schools' therapists are offering virtual sessions and practice materials for students. Every teacher is committed to supporting their students through this.

Planning Ahead

While we don’t have all the answers, we want to assure you that we’re planning for a variety of scenarios. Our COVID-19 Response Team meets daily at 2 p.m. to discuss these scenarios and establish new protocols and plans for reopening, as well as the possibility of continued distance learning. We are planning for the likely possibility of social regression as a result of forced distance. When we return to school, we will do so with the grace and understanding that our children may need additional social and academic supports and guidance to acclimate back into the classroom. To ensure the continued health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff, we are exploring safety protocols that will need to be put in place upon reentering. These will cover hygiene and sanitation, social distancing requirements, visitor access, gatherings, and more. We will share finalized protocols prior to reopening.
