St. Julie Billiart Quote

Julie Billiart School
Mrs. Maureen MacIntyre - Seventh Grade Homeroom Teacher

     Welcome to Seventh Level!

Some highlights for the month of March include:

1. There is a liturgy on Wednesday, March 9, at 8:30a.m.

Ashes will be distributed following Mass.

2. Friday, March 18 will be a free day due to conferences.

In case you need to reach me with a question, comment or concern, my e-mail address is mmacintyre@jbschool. org or feel free to call me here at school.

The final Junior High Social will be on March 25, 2011.  The Socials give our junior high students opportunities to gather in non-academic, social settings.  Our students may bring junior high-aged friends.  Cost for students and friends is $6.00 per person.  Soft drinks and pizza are available for $0.50 an item.  The socials are chaperoned by the Junior High teachers, Mrs. Johnston and Mr. Worsdall.

We continue to pray for Jose's complete recovery.  Beginning in mid-February, Jose started back to school on a modified schedule.  We are thrilled to have him back with us!

Even though we recently met for conferences, there are sometimes changes in students' work ethics once we "round the bend" nearing spring.  I'll keep you updated if your child is falling into this category.  However, if you do not hear from me, or notice anything amiss with your child's grades on ProgressBook, you can probably assume that "no news is good news."

In religion this year, our curriculum covers Jesus and the New Testament.  We will talk about our friendship with Jesus, learn about our individual uniqueness and capacity to grow, learn and love, and get a better idea about Jesus's life and the time in which he lived.  We will explore the Beatitudes, the Sacraments, the lives of the apostles, learn about the Gospels (and their authorship), and address many aspects of Catholic Social Justice teachings, both within the textbook chapters and with supplemental activities.

In March, we will learn more about Jesus' apostles.  We will also discuss all aspects of Lent.

In science, you probably have a fairly good idea of the 7th level content.  If that's not the case, ask your child to show you the handout entitled "Do You Know As Much As A Seventh Grader?" to view some of the topics we'll cover this year.  The questions will be answered as we progress through the content.

We are presently reviewing the components of weather, which was covered thoroughly in earlier grades.  My seventh graders will begin to realize how weather determines climate, and how climate is a key factor in a biome's plant and animal life.  We will also explore water cycle-related natural disasters, worldwide availability of clean water and humankind's part in the preservation of this natural resource, as well as our contributions to water, air and soil pollution.
