TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

...Here's to the kids who are different

The kids with a mischievous streak,

For when they have grown, as history has shown,

It's their difference that makes them UNIQUE.

                                         Digby Wolf

The above quote is taken from a poem by Digby Wolf.  All of us possess qualities that make us unique.  I am committed to find the qualities

that make each of my students unique and to build on these qualities to help them achieve to their greatest ability. I believe in helping each student

reach their highest potential for intellectual and social growth.  I am committed and believe strongly in focusing on my students' ABILITY, not their

DISability.  My goal is to pursue a positive collaboration between special education, general education, and the parents/guardians.  It is important for

me to find out the learning styles of each one of my students so that I can modify my instruction to fit their needs.  I want to promote a positive learning

environment where the children will feel safe, comfortable and willing to take risks.  It is important for me to stay current on new teaching methods

that foster instructional growth.  I enjoy trying new methods and strategies that will help my students succeed.  I will do all I can to be an effective

teacher and present the material to be learned in a meaningful and relevant manner through motivation and encouragement.  It is important that I

convey to the students and their parents/guardians that we are all a team and must work together to ensure a successful and rewarding school year!
