Letter from Mrs. Jodi Johnston
Dear Parents,
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! The weather is starting to turn cold and the snow season is upon us. With this weather, comes the possibility of snow days. If we will not have school for any reason, I will try to make that determination by 6:15am. At that time, you will receive a phone call from One Call Now letting you know that it is a snow day. Our school name will also be listed on Channels 3, 5, and 8.
When deciding to call off for the day, there are a couple of issues that I take into consideration. First, if the South Euclid/Lyndhurst School District does not have school, we will not have school. Second, I will look to see what other school districts are closing. We have students from 31 different school districts. If I notice that many of these districts have closed for the day, I may also decide to close school for the day. Again, this decision will be broadcasted through the One Call Now phone system and Channels 3, 5, and 8.
During the winter months, we will try to get the students out for recess as much as possible. The fresh air is good for all of us. Students will be going outside for recess every day, unless the temperature (including the wind chill) is below 32 degrees. It is important that students are dressed appropriately, since they will be going outside. They will only be able to go in the playground area if they are dressed appropriately ¡V this means boots, winter coat, snow pants (if they have them), hats, scarves (if they have them), and gloves. If students are not dressed appropriately, then they will have to stand and/or walk around on the blacktop area (parking lot).
For those of you with younger students, they are using the following sequence/routine when getting dressed to go outside (I am sure it is similar to what you do at home) ¡V
- take off shoes
- put on snow pants (if they have them)
- put on coat
- put on hat
- put on scarf (if they have them)
- put on boots
- put on your gloves
Remember, we will not have school on Wednesday, November 26th. School will resume on Monday, December 1st. I hope everyone takes a moment to say, “Thank You” over this long Thanksgiving weekend. I know that we here at school are thankful for all the support and help each family gives us throughout the school year.
Thank You,
Jodi Johnston, M.Ed.
