Curriculum:

Julie Billiart School is certified by the State of Ohio and follows the Cleveland Catholic Diocese course of studies. The following subjects are included in its core curriculum:

Religion - following the approved diocesan course of studies
Mathematics – the Saxon Math series
Reading –Wilson Phonics, Sidewalks Reading Program, Reading A-Z, S.T.A.R. (assessment), Accelerated Reader Program
Speech and Language Therapy which includes social skills
Science –using "Skit Kits" in addition to specialized classes
Social Studies – includes a "Geography Club" for G. 5-8
Computer proficiency – 1:1 computers and use of ActivBoards for interactive learning
Music – includes theory, vocal group singing, and appreciation
Art Therapy sessions – individual, small groups, and classes
Physical education – in class groups including intramural team sports and an after school program

Julie Billiart School is in compliance with state requirements as it meets these school improvement goals: (Timeline: 2009 -2013)

Goal 1 -Students will identify and apply Catholic Social Teachings.

Goal 2 -Students will increase proficiency in reading comprehension.

When students graduate from JBS, most will have completed the elementary course of study approved by the State of Ohio and the Cleveland Catholic Diocese.

The school's main focus in the academic areas is to remediate whenever possible and compensate when necessary. All levels stress a "hands on "approach to study skills and integrating these skills into the total curriculum and daily living experience. Students may be taught in large or small groups, even individually.
