Expanding Opportunities in Special Education
Beginning in 1954, the Sisters of Notre Dame set out to provide a quality education for children with unique learning needs. Now, 64 years later, the Julie Billiart Network is not only continuing the Sisters' mission, but we are also expanding their vision to serve more students throughout all of Northeast Ohio.
First Steps In Akron
Renovations began at our first expansion school, JB Akron, during the spring of 2017 and doors opened to grades K-2 that fall. Plans and construction continue today as we prepare to add grades 3-5 for the 2018-2019 school year and grades 6-8 by 2020.
Our Strategic Growth Committee, Board Members and Leadership Team are keeping a constant pulse on the academic and social needs of the special learning community throughout Northeast Ohio. We are aware that JB Lyndhurst and JB Akron alone won't be able to meet the high demand for private schools exclusively serving students with ADD/ADHD, high functioning autism and other specific learning needs. We are currently looking at numerous communities and funding partners, however final decisions to new school locations has yet to be made. Our plans are to add four more facilities to the Julie Billiart Network to help us reach up to 700 students that may otherwise go without the therapies, individualized curriculum and nurturing learning environment they truly need to succeed socially and academically.
